We would like to thank our hosting partners; Alpha Kai Delta & Rho Beta Gamma!! We would also like to thank our other partners in service (PinS); Sigma Gamma Sigma, High Society and Alpha Alpha Kappa! It has been a very long road for all of us to come to a point where we can successfully come together and have a very positive day of remembrance by giving everyone information on how they can they can donate to each branch with their separate charities! YES! You can donate to a separate branch that caters to those specific needs of those soldiers! We want to emphasize this need every month. Four branches were represented in this event; Army, Marine, Navy & Air Force. I myself have a cousin who is currently active duty career navy and find that by spreading this need for each separate branch we personalize our connection with our soldiers. Below is the information that was given out at the event:
Army:
Background Info: The United States Army (USA) is the main branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for land-based military operations. It is the largest and oldest established branch of the U.S. military, and is one of seven U.S. uniformed services. The modern army has its roots in the Continental Army which was formed on 14 June 1775, to meet the demands of the American Revolutionary War before the establishment of the United States. The Congress of the Confederation officially created the United States Army on 3 June 1784after the end of the Revolutionary War to replace the disbanded Continental Army. The army considers itself to be descended from the Continental Army and thus dates its inception from the origins of that force.
The primary mission of the army is "to fight and win our Nation’s wars by providing prompt, sustained land dominance across the full range of military operations and spectrum of conflict in support of combatant commanders.
The U.S. Army supports its Wounded Warriors through a variety of programs. Donations can benefit all Wounded Warriors, medical facilities, programs, and services, including those specifically registered with the Army Wounded Warrior (AW2) program.
Marine
Background Info: The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is a branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for providing power projection from the sea, using the mobility of the United States Navy to rapidly deliver combined-arms task forces. It is one of seven uniformed services of the United States. The Marine Corps is a component of the United States Department of the Navy, often working closely with naval forces for training, transportation, and logistics; however, the Marine Corps is a separate branch.
Captain Samuel Nicholas formed two battalions of Continental Marines on 10 November 1775, in Philadelphia as naval infantry. Since then, the mission of the Marine Corps has evolved with changing military doctrine and American foreign policy. The Marine Corps has served in every American armed conflict and attained prominence in the 20th century when its theories and practices of amphibious warfare proved prescient and ultimately formed the cornerstone of the Pacific campaign of World War II. By the mid-20th century, the Marine Corps had become the dominant theorist and practitioner of amphibious warfare. Its ability to rapidly respond on short notice to expeditionary crises gives it a strong role in the implementation and execution of American foreign policy.
Our Foundation Programs include:
Marine Excellence Awards Program (in 2010, over 9,701 awards were provided to Marines and Sailors that serve with them), the Commanders' Unit Library Program, sending copies of Leatherneck and the Marine Corps Gazette to Wounded Marines from Coast to Coast – and also provide them with memberships to MCA, along with the Commanders' Forums and many other programs that we receive requests to support, which the Corps cannot use appropiated funds to support.
Additional recognition for members and corporations may be available depending upon the amount of your donation. For more information on this, please call our Development Department at 703-640-0169. Thank you for your interest in supporting Marine Corps programs!
Navy:
Background Info: The United States Navy (USN) is the naval warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven uniformed services of the United States. It is larger than the next 13 largest navies combined in terms of battle fleet tonnage, according to one estimate. The U.S. Navy also has the world's largest carrier fleet, with 10 in service, one under construction (two planned), and two in reserve. The service has 317,054 personnel on active duty and 109,671 in the Navy Reserve. It operates 285 ships in active service and more than 3,700 aircraft.
Service is available on most carriers. Donations are collected for the benefit of the UNITED STATES NAVY MEMORIAL by the Mobile Giving Foundation!
Air Force:
Background Info: The United States Air Force (USAF) is the aerial warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven American uniformed services. Initially part of the United States Army, the USAF was formed as a separate branch of the military on 18 September 1947 under the National Security Act of 1947. It is the most recent branch of the U.S. military to be formed, and is the largest and one of the world's most technologically advanced air forces. The USAF articulates its core functions as Nuclear Deterrence Operations, Special Operations, Air Superiority, Global Integrated ISR, Space Superiority, Command and Control, Cyberspace Superiority, Personnel Recovery, Global Precision Attack, Building Partnerships, Rapid Global Mobility and Agile Combat Support.
