Iota Sigma Rho vs. Kia Hamsters

*I live for the applause, applause, applause
I live for the applause-plause
Live for the applause-plause
Live for the way that you cheer and scream for me
The applause, applause, applause*

This is our mid-week “commercial” break. I am in LOVE with this commercial! As my soror Naomi will tell you I’ve been singing this song for about a WEEK now. But what makes this commercial so much more meaningful is because it reminds me of my sorors. I know, I know. That’s crazy, right?! Here me out first! No, it’s not because we are cuddly and cute, full of fur and have big beautiful eyes, though some of them are true.

So here is my breakdown of the commercial.

The hamster start the commercial running on a beach, all three of them alone and huffing trying to lose weight. It changes to a gym, their shirt reads “ALL BUFF, NO FLUFF!” They are obviously working out for a cause and even though they are trying their best, they are still very fluffy.

As the commercial progresses, a designer starts modeling the new kia soul. Listening to the same song as the hamster “Applause” by Lady Gaga, the hamsters and the designer are not on the same level, though they are following the same beat.

The hamsters try to wave and be friendly to women, without success as he trips and falls on the treadmill. They even go so far as to try unorthodox methods to drop this weight such as yoga and palates. Finally, the designer cranks it up a bit and pushes the stereo to be louder and the hamsters crank up their olypical and do faster foot work, gaining momentum. Even though the hamsters have obviously hit their strive and are gaining momentum. We still see them as fluffy, fat, cute lil hamsters.

The cut the scene and you see the finished project, a smooth, fast, stylish and polished Kia Soul. The designer has obviously done their work. It pulls into a red carpet and you out comes 3 VERY stylish and handsome hamsters! (One even looks like Miguel!!) They strut on the carpet, as fans cheer and some leer, hugging and kissing the crowd.

How Is This ISigRho!?

You see our name and you see our glory but you don’t know our story! We, as a unit have to strive every day, like those hamster, working, working, working, working, pushing and pushing. We have to work with each other. Not because we like paddles or jackets or having land or any of that. We do this because we are FRIENDS & SISTERS. We want to spread the awareness of veterans and those in need while forming a bond with people who want FRIENDS. Friendship. Loyalty. Respect. Trust. And even after all of that, we are still viewed as cute little fluffy hamsters instead of what we truly are. Totally Transformed.

Iota Sigma Rho Partners IN Service - Rep Your Branch Success

We would like to thank our hosting partners; Alpha Kai Delta & Rho Beta Gamma!! We would also like to thank our other partners in service (PinS);  Sigma Gamma Sigma,  High Society and Alpha Alpha Kappa! It has been a very long road for all of us to come to a point where we can successfully come together and have a very positive day of remembrance by giving everyone information on how they can they can donate to each branch with their separate charities! YES! You can donate to a separate branch that caters to those specific needs of those soldiers! We want to emphasize this need every month. Four branches were represented in this event; Army, Marine, Navy & Air Force. I myself have a cousin who is currently active duty career navy and find that by spreading this need for each separate branch we personalize our connection with our soldiers. Below is the information that was given out at the event:

Army:
Background Info: The United States Army (USA) is the main branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for land-based military operations. It is the largest and oldest established branch of the U.S. military, and is one of seven U.S. uniformed services. The modern army has its roots in the Continental Army which was formed on 14 June 1775, to meet the demands of the American Revolutionary War before the establishment of the United States. The Congress of the Confederation officially created the United States Army on 3 June 1784after the end of the Revolutionary War to replace the disbanded Continental Army. The army considers itself to be descended from the Continental Army and thus dates its inception from the origins of that force.

The primary mission of the army is "to fight and win our Nation’s wars by providing prompt, sustained land dominance across the full range of military operations and spectrum of conflict in support of combatant commanders.

The U.S. Army supports its Wounded Warriors through a variety of programs. Donations can benefit all Wounded Warriors, medical facilities, programs, and services, including those specifically registered with the Army Wounded Warrior (AW2) program.

Marine
Background Info: The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is a branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for providing power projection from the sea, using the mobility of the United States Navy to rapidly deliver combined-arms task forces. It is one of seven uniformed services of the United States. The Marine Corps is a component of the United States Department of the Navy, often working closely with naval forces for training, transportation, and logistics; however, the Marine Corps is a separate branch.

Captain Samuel Nicholas formed two battalions of Continental Marines on 10 November 1775, in Philadelphia as naval infantry. Since then, the mission of the Marine Corps has evolved with changing military doctrine and American foreign policy. The Marine Corps has served in every American armed conflict and attained prominence in the 20th century when its theories and practices of amphibious warfare proved prescient and ultimately formed the cornerstone of the Pacific campaign of World War II. By the mid-20th century, the Marine Corps had become the dominant theorist and practitioner of amphibious warfare. Its ability to rapidly respond on short notice to expeditionary crises gives it a strong role in the implementation and execution of American foreign policy.

Navy:
Background Info: The United States Navy (USN) is the naval warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven uniformed services of the United States. It is larger than the next 13 largest navies combined in terms of battle fleet tonnage, according to one estimate. The U.S. Navy also has the world's largest carrier fleet, with 10 in service, one under construction (two planned), and two in reserve. The service has 317,054 personnel on active duty and 109,671 in the Navy Reserve. It operates 285 ships in active service and more than 3,700 aircraft.

Air Force:
Background Info: The United States Air Force (USAF) is the aerial warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven American uniformed services. Initially part of the United States Army, the USAF was formed as a separate branch of the military on 18 September 1947 under the National Security Act of 1947. It is the most recent branch of the U.S. military to be formed, and is the largest and one of the world's most technologically advanced air forces. The USAF articulates its core functions as Nuclear Deterrence Operations, Special Operations, Air Superiority, Global Integrated ISR, Space Superiority, Command and Control, Cyberspace Superiority, Personnel Recovery, Global Precision Attack, Building Partnerships, Rapid Global Mobility and Agile Combat Support.

Greek Life RL vs SL

I have always thought of pledging a real sorority, but never had the opportunity to do it. So I have tried a couple of "sisterhoods" on the grid to get my feel of Greek Life. I must say not having any Greek background in real and then joining an SL sorority is a huge wakeup call. Prior to pledging I  had no idea that so many Greek organizations on SL actually come together and live "Greek" do things together and support one another. WHICH I FIND OUTSTANDING!!!!. I love the way that sisterhoods, and brother hoods put for the effort accomplish things together for better attendance and a more profitable outcome. There is sometimes pettiness and things that probably dont mirror rl Greek life at all. But over all these organizations on the SL grid gives us all something to do, events to attend, and a sense of sister/brotherhood, responsibility and accomplishment. I look forward to continuing my future devours withing Iota Sigma Rho and learning more, expanding my knowledge of Greek living to the fullest.

I sometimes wonder how things would be in a rl sorority and if women put forth that extra to make sure they arent bickering w/ each other. Do try their hardest to respect each other and represent the soro in the highest regards. Or do they also deal with various attitudes and personalties that clash with the sorority rules and principals and then have uncomfortable situations and sisters dropping or getting kicked out.... How many people really get kicked out of rl sororites/fraternities? I question if there are so many up and downs, new sorors coming and going, openings and closings of orgs, and drama in SL sorors and frats because it is virtual and because alot of the people that join are like me and lack knowledge of rl Greek Life?

Regardless of the positives and negatives of SL life the organizations that are formed, Greek and non-Greek, are made to grow people together and individually. As well as being use for philanthropies and charitable donations. The help to mature and grow up some people and to insure others, that you will always have those people you have bonded with to fall back on if and when needed. They give some a sense of family with the relationships that are developed. I can truly say I hope this is something that goes on forever and stay as positive as possible.

Awareness IS Key

Iota Sigma Rho SL Sorority is a strictly awareness focused organization. We do not attempt nor do we collect any funds, lindens or otherwise, on behalf of the charities we support. If funds are being collected we cannot take part as an official sponsor

This is why; we have yet to see a Greek organization in SECONDLIFE show their tax identification form from their group to a charity. Further, the likeliness of this happening is very very RARE! We has a whole cannot agree with that. We don't need nor want peoples lindens for these charities.

We want to be recognized as sisterhood that is focused on bring the needs of veterans and veteran efforts to light. Not as an organization that is taking money or try to raise a certain amount of money that will more than likely be spent on tiers or items.

We will continue to morally support any and all groups. But fiscally, it is not within our best interest to support any monetary charities within second life. We urge all groups to consider focusing more on awareness. With this in mind, we look forward to the continued efforts of all our Partner In Service.
